All bodies fall into 1 of 3 somatotypes;
- Ectomorphic: characterized by long and thin muscles/limbs and low fat storage; usually referred to as slim. Ectomorphs are not predisposed to store fat nor build muscle.
- Mesomorphic: characterized by medium bones, solid torso, low fat levels, wide shoulders with a narrow waist; usually referred to as muscular. Mesomorphs are predisposed to build muscle but not store fat.
- Endomorphic: characterized by increased fat storage, a wide waist and a large bone structure, usually referred to as fat, or chunky. Endomorphs are predisposed to storing fat.

When trying to select a workout routine, and diet plan- knowing your body is key. Not all workouts are geared for everyone and your metabolism WILL dictate how you store fat and muscle. I am a Endomorph – meaning I store fat, easily. My current workout plan consist of P90X Classic (Beach Body DVD workout / weight training), with some Insanity (Beach Body Cardio DVD set) infused. I know that Muscle will allow your fat to sit differently, and building muscle will speed up your metabolism – also weight training will allow you to continue to burn calories long after your workout. These are some of the reasons why I chose to go with a weight training based routine.
